New Zealand Suffolk x Sheep

We decided to try out some suffolk mules a few years ago but were never happy with the typical suffolk at birth (they are a bit dim!)  So we decided to do a trial putting some ewes to the New Zealand suffolk tup and some to a pedigree suffolk.

For us the New Zealand suffolks win hands down.  The lambs are streamlined for easy birth and quick to get up and going.  The ewe lambs we have kept have made excellent mothers and the male lambs produce a stunning carcass in a short time.

In contrast, the pedigree suffolk lambs were chunky at birth and slow to start but also made nice carcasses.
