These days we only keep a few hens for eggs and once a year we run a batch of meat birds to keep the freezer stocked with chicken.

For the laying hens we go for ex free raange hens from a local farm  They are normally only kept up to 18 months and we get them then and they continue to lay well and suit our needs.
