We have had a really busy year and consequently the website has suffered.  So I apologise for not having updated it sooner.  Hopefully the new web format is better and any feedback is always appreciated.

In January I started an MSc at Cranfield University.  When I applied I had a really boring job and needed a challenge.  Of course in the time between application and commencing the course the world changed, but I have still been really enjoying it, although I was hard to leave home of the first few residentials.

Julian was due to go snowboarding in January too, but fell off a roof the day of his trip and broke his arm and scared all of us and himself.   We had to make several changes to our setup to accommodate the one armed wonder but it was ok in the end and he has almost made a complete recovery, although it has impacted on his darts technique (allegedly!)

We have taken in a couple of dogs this year as foster dogs and managed to re-home them both.  Jess (now called Queen) had been driving her owners mad.  She had such high working drive and had directed some of that need to work as aggression.  She is now on a working farm and thoroughly enjoys her new life.   The second dog, Laddie, was an enormous 11 month old male collie.  He was just an energetic collie puppy and the owners found it hard to keep him in their home environment.  He has been re-homed to a couple with a 70 acre smallholding in Cornwall and is enjoying his new found freedom.

We have had two new editions on the bovine front.  Sadly Betony's calf was born dead after a long labour made worse by the Buddha festival having a rave in the field next to ours for 24 hours!  So we bought a calf from the farmer down the road and he is doing well.  Rosie then produced a lovely heifer calf, which is currently unnamed as she was born on the day that foot and mouth was announced.

Substitute calf. Rosie & her calf.

As for everything else, the farm and the business have been ticking over nicely.  We made over 1,500 bales of hay for both ourselves and our neighbours this year and we are looking to increase our smallholding if possible with some more rented land. We are planning to start lambing in December this year to keep us out of mischief over Christmas, so watch this space for any news of new arrivals.......
